Welcome to the Internet home of the Myaamia Foundation. We are a charitable organization with the mission to support:
- The efforts of the Miami People to revitalize their culture and language.
- The dissemination of their intellectual knowledge in culturally appropriate ways.
“Myaamia” is the traditional name of the Miami People, whose homelands are centered in the Wabash River Valley of north-central Indiana. These lands extend as far as the modern states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and lower Michigan and Wisconsin.
Today the Miamis live throughout the United States, with significant populations in Oklahoma (modern home of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma), Kansas and Indiana.
The Foundation has been set up to establish a secure stream of funding for cultural revitalization projects that will benefit the Miami People and provide opportunities for individuals and groups to become involved in this work. The Board of the Myaamia Foundation decides the direction and activities of the organization in accord with the direction and needs of the Miamis.
